PSHE education is an integral part of the school curriculum at Moorside Primary, underpinning all aspects of learning. It is a planned programme that intends to enable pupils to acquire the knowledge, skills and understanding that they will require to manage their lives successfully both now and in the future. Through learning about personal attributes (confidence, resilience and self-esteem); developing a sense of their own identity; managing emotions in various situations and fostering good relationships, pupils develop the essential skills needed for future employability and enjoyable lives.
Our PSHE education programme is age-appropriate and spans the whole school life of the child from when they start with us in Nursery to when they leave us in Year 6. In the Foundation Stage, PSHE education is a Prime Area of Learning which means most, if not all, of the planning and activities available to the children, are linked to the Personal, Social, Health and the Emotional well-being of the children.
In Key Stage 1 & 2, the PSHE education programme covers three core themes which are:
Core theme 1: Health and wellbeing
Core theme 2: Relationships
Core theme 3: Living in the wider world – Economic wellbeing and being a responsible citizen
This is in line with the National Guidance (PSHE Association, 2013). They also link to the themes that we teach in our school curriculum.
Our education programme covers key issues such as:
Emotional Health and Well-being
PSHE education is delivered by school staff, our school nurse and partner agencies such as Newcastle Eagles.
If you have any further queries, then please contact Cora Dodds (PSHE Co-ordinator) or Alison Proud (School Nurse) via school. For further information about our Relationships education program, please see our Sex, Relationships Education policy (currently under review) on the Curriculum section of the website.
