School Direct Training

Tyne Valley Teaching School Alliance

The School Direct training will be based around a newly developed PGCE, using features of our existing outstanding programmes with Northumbria University, tailored to meet the training and academic needs of each student.

The successful applicant will join a cohort of other School Direct students for a number of university based sessions over the course of the year.  These sessions will provide the successful applicant with the opportunity to be part of a professional learning community and to engage with some of the wider pedagogical and social theories around education.  This will be delivered through taught sessions delivered by university lecturers and a range of visiting speakers from various fields within education.  A tutoring system will also support academic, pastoral and school based needs through both campus based tutorials, and school visits.

Students will have the option to demonstrate Level 7 achievements through specific assignments which, if successful, will lead to credits towards Master level study.

Based upon the specific training needs of the candidate, the university will work with the school to provide more personalised input, drawing upon expertise within other initial teacher education programmes at Northumbria and Newcastle Universities.

Upon successful completion of the programme, the candidate will be awarded either a Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (Level 6) or Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Level 7) with a recommendation for QTS.
